ball joints Question

so i need to replace all of my ball joints (yay).
being the CB that i am, i'm inclined to buy them from AZ for $27-uppers and $32-lowers.
others in town are about $50 more for all 4 total. any reason to *not* go with the AZ parts, and are there any know cheapie on-line sources that won't wear out after the 1st romp through the rocks?
thanks!

Uh, WalMart meybee?

:-)

Seriously, Are they any good?
IIRC, Crown mostly subs out their stuff from China.
They had some serious issues with a batch of AMC V8 timing covers, but I believe they stepped up and replaced them all.

Still got to wonder about ball-joints for $12.50 a piece. I'll shutup now.

Re: ball joints Question

Quadratec is one web vendor, I'm not sure Crown will sell 'em on their own, you might check their website for a dealer near you, and I cant guarantee I am correct on the price, they were less than autozone and advanceauto though.

I've had no problems with any crown part I have gotten for my xj.

Re: ball joints Question

For what you use the Jeep for, go with the cheap ones. With on-road use even the cheap ones usually last several years. With occasional off-road abuse, they'll last about forever, unless you end up breaking them doing something dumb. And in that case, the cost of joints will be the least of your concern.

Re: ball joints Question

I had terrible problems with the crown tie rod ends with all the boots falling apart within a year. Had to start replacing all the first boot 6 months after and ended up getting rid of them completely when I found the joints had much less available degrees of movement over even stock. Swapped them for Moog parts and they have not given any trouble at all 3 years since and have more travel than even stock.

Re: ball joints Question

The boots seem to be a problem for a lot of those after market ball joints. I purchased some after market boots and they are awesome. No problems at all after replacing the boots.
