I'm looking at buying a 2001 XJ Limited - 60th Anniversary Edition Jeep. It's evidently got the 241 Transfer Case. I only have experience with the 231. The "Full Time" light stays on. Is this normal? Is the Jeep always in 4 wheel (all wheel) drive)? I can see some benefits in this, but it would also be nice to turn it off on dry pavement. I assume that would result in better gas mileage and less wear on some drive train parts. Is there a way to run it as 2 wheel drive?
Also, does anyone know what's different with the "60th Anniversary Edition" from the other 2001 Limited XJs? Just the badge? Maybe the color?

Isn't that a 242 transfer case?
Yes you should be able to select:
2 wheel drive
Part time 4 wheel drive
Full time 4 wheel drive
Neutral
Low 4 wheel drive
Maybe the switch on the transfer case is stuck if the lever is moving.

That could be it. The lever moves normally. It goes into part time 4-high and 4-low just fine. It's just that when I returned it to the front position - (2WD?), the "Full Time" light stays on.
