hey, in the interest of adding something worthwhile over here.
I just asked the guys on the strokers group about replacing the bearings in an idler when it is worn out.
Seemed to generate some interest as the idler pulley from Jeep lists for $30 and the bearings costs $2-5!
Here is the part number
6203-2RS
See below, it appears the bearing fits all the idler pulleys and is available darn near everywhere that sells bearings for anything!
Next time you have a rough pulley, change the bearing not the pulley!
IIRC I am using those 6203-2RS bearings on my 1988 XJ 4.0!
I bought more than one! ;-)
The part number for your 89 idler pulley is 53002905; the 91+ HO pulleys are
53002903. But I'm betting they use the same bearing. Easiest way to tell is
to use some four 0000 steel wool and clean up the bearing face; the bearing
part number will be stamped on the outer seal on both sides.
My idler pulley bearing is going out on my ' 89 Cherokee LTD.
Will this bearing work on the ' 89 Cherokee 4.0L?
Fastenal has them ($2.08) and there's a slew of them on Fleabay too. Just do
a search for 6203-2RS. They're everywhere. :~) I used to always just press
out bearings if I could replace them when I needed to, have become lazy now
I guess. Thanks for ringing my bell.Don
