AX-15 Lube

so, i'm about to change ALL the fluids in my rig (cuz it hasn't happened in
about ..... well.... just too long, ok?) and i was searching around the
garage to see what i needed and what i didn't when i came across a bottle of
Mobile 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant. i had written "AX-15 Lube" on the bottle
at one point in the past.
honestly, i can't remember if i had that bottle just to top off the original
fluid level, or if it was what was left over from a previous fluid change.
soooo.... the question is: since i know the AX-15s are a little
temperamental about the type of fluid they like, is the Mobile 1 SGL a viable
lube to keep the thing shifting smoothly, or is it a *must* to go with the
Mopar schtuff?
fwiw, it's obviously been a while since i changed the tranny fluid. and
it's shifted quite nicely for ever with no issues (except for hydraulic
clutch linkage issues, but that's another story).
has anyone been running the Mobile 1 SGL exclusively?
hmmmm...

Re: AX-15 Lube

Redline MTL is working nicely for me. After about a week of country driving (i.e. not a lot of shifting) it's really loosened and smoothed out the whole deal. Well worth the money, and I don't actually think it was much more than Mobil 1.
Only downside was having to order it and wait, no local stock. Summit seemed to have the best price including shipping.

Re: AX-15 Lube

I'm using torco full synth in my Atlas, great stuff but at 10 bucks a
quart, I'm glad it only takes two per change (once a year)

Re: AX-15 Lube

I have used the Mobile 1 in the tranny and the diffs on both my XJs and the Rubicon for years. It works great, shifts smoothly and isn't as stiff when the box is cold on those near zero mornings when I need it to get me around in the snow.

Re: AX-15 Lube

thanks for the info
i *thought* i had used it as a complete oil change before and not a
topper-offer.
i did a little reading on it, and it meets GL-5 reqm'ts, just as the FSM
states.
bought a few quarts this evening and plan on changing that and the rest of
the fluids soon.
then let the mods & fixes begin!!

Re: AX-15 Lube

Good luck with the mods and fixes. I am about to replace the springs on the Rubicon. Same size, just not broken ones.
