The jeeps been starting and idling nicely for the last couple weeks, I do notice after driving it for about 5 minutes, when going up-hill I hear a distinct tapping coming from the engine. I plan on taking it in for a valve job/ adjustment in the next couple of weeks (fingers crossed).
I DIGRESS... the problem that I'm having currently is this. I started it up like normal yesterday morning and let it warm up as I went around to scrape ice off the windows, (the blower fan doesn't work either) suddenly it just completely stopped running. I got in it to try to start it up again and nothing, no seat belt buzz when I turn the ignition, no power to the guages, zip, nada. Only the internal lights come on when the doors open, what the &*($ happened?

Check your battery connections. Sometimes they get corroded and then
will not pass enough power to run everything. Clean them up just for
general principles and then see what happens.

Probably a bad ground or connections at the battery terminals.

Checked the battery connections twice. The thing is that the headlights work, hazards work, interior lights work but put the key in the ignition, turn it and nothing. I've looked at the fuses (the colorful ones) and they look fine. Are there any that I'm missing? Thanks!

Also check the starter relay. My 93 shorted out and had nothing going to the solenoid. If you have the maxi fuses check them you may have a spade corroded or separated and loosing connection.

Try putting the gear shift in neutral and then start the car. If it starts you have a switch problem.

Turn on the headlights and hit the starter. If the headlights dim
and nothing happens, it still probably the battery connection.

If the blower gauge lights etc quit there are two possible causes, one if the ignition switch AUX power contact has gone bad. Also a possible cause could be a blown fusable link located by the relay area behind interior side of the battery. Look for a burned wire in this area. I think the fusable links are also tagged in some way but don't hold me to that.

It's not the shifter switch, I have had that happen in the past tho. Would the starter relay cause the dash instruments to not come on? If so were is it located? I'll pick up a box of the blade style fuses and replace the ones that are there. It looks like some of them have a little corrosion on them. Usually there's a diagram on the fuse box or near the fuse box that tells you what goes where but I don't see anything and my Haynes manual doesn't show that detail.

I turned on the lights and hit the starter, the lights didn't dim. I looked behind the battery and I only saw two things I might call relays. I have the 2.8 V6 and those two relays are mounted to the passenger side, front fender under the hood. Would the fusible link(s) be located coming from one of these two relays? Also what would they look like? Thanks for all the suggestions!

I found a wire that had "blown up", I twisted it back together and now the idiot lights/ gauges come back on. I haven't started it back up because I don't want to blow another wire. Wrapping up the wire again solved the problem but I wanted to know if that's only temporary fix or should I replace the wiring so this doesn't happen again? I have pics of where it happened here:

If I am looking at these pictures properly, then the cooked wire was
on of your fusible links. If it is working now and you are sure that
you done have any shorts, you should replace it.
