Congrats on saving that $$ and broadening your mind! ;-)

AFAIK there is a cable that should go from the Auto Trans Selector/Shifter
and travel to the ign switch. It usually prevents you from removing the ign
key unless the Selector is in the 'P' position.

The Brake Interlock thingy deals with not being able to move the Selector
out of 'P' or 'N' unless you step on the brake pedal with a working brake
light switch first. It was a recall on some of the older Jeeps but I never
wanted to take mine in for that recall.

yeah, if i were running an auto, i'd *rather* that the shifter would work
without having to mash on the brake pedal all the time.
call it divine intervention and leave it as is!
