steering

I have a 3.5 inch lift and want to upgrade my steering. Is the Currie or the
Rock Krawler the way to go.?

Re: steering

Anything that puts a solid bar between both wheels will work better in
my opinion. Rockkrawler's kit looks to be the best of the two you
listed. I don't reccommend Rusty's, since they use OEM endlinks,
unless you go with their OTK system.

I made my own out of DOM tubing. It worked wonderful. Most of the
expense for my custom setup was for the DOM tubing (about $90 through
a specialty metals place just east of Chase Field), the drillbit and
the 3/4-16 RH tap, which you cna borrow if you go this route.

Heim joints will go bad, and the cheapo-s are $36 each. I am looking
at getting myself a new set of Heims via one of these websites:
http://bulletproofsteering.com/rodendspecs.html

The only other thing I can add is that I bent my DOM Tie Rod, and
immediately went with a ToysxTroy tie rod for $160. I later discovered
the material specification for their "Alumiflex". Now that they are
out of business, buying one from them will be a little difficult. If
you want a truly bullet proof steering, use solid 7075 T7 Aluminum Bar
(the ToysxTroy material spec). I have driven into rocks that stopped
me dead in my tracks, and the tie rod just bounces back. It simply
can't bend! It was the best purchase I made for the heep! I feel
confident that I can drive any straight line without worrying
about "bumping" a few boulders with my front components.

Thanks. Does anyone know if the rock krawler setup will fit on a 3.5
lift?

Re: steering

Best setup would be Tera knuckle kit..
Currie for an upgrade over stock style steering.
TNT customs for Tie Rod replacement
I'm not fond of the RK steering unless you use the Tera Knuckle..

Re: steering

If your going to build your own links, or steering I would suggest using a machining service to
make sure that your links are drilled and threaded straight. Typically won't cost any more then buying the proper tools to
machine and tap them yourself.

Re: steering

My cousin is a machinist. He also does heads. The tera knuckle doubles my
cost for the project. Is there a flat top knuckle I can use from the junk
yard without converting my hubs?

Re: steering

Nope..  Tera is the only knuckle swap avial.  Solid axle was working on something last I checked..

Just have your cousin tap and thread your links.  1.25 Dom .313 wall will serve you well.
