So my already on-the-fritz radio unit is getting worse. The sound is really starting to blow. I think I can do 6.5s all around (mine has the rear bar, no speakers in the back doors) and so long as the head unit has an aux I'll be set. Don't need anything special.
Last time I went looking for car stereo stuff I'd found a rather inexpensive site with lots of brand options and tons of detailed specs. It was a smaller company and it was gone in a few years. So I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations other than the obvious big stores.

Crutchfield has a ton of information and some of their sale pricing is good.
Just depends on what your looking for.
When I put the head unit in my American, I figured out what I wanted then waited for it to go on sale somewhere other than Bestbuy! Then took the add in to Bestbuy and they beat the price by 10%.
6.5's fit good in the front. For the rear bar they will fit if you use the grilles that come with the speakers an dnot the factory grilles. At least with Kenwoods I put in mine they would have. I had ordered on Cructhfields recomendations so I ended up withsmaller rear speakers. Don't do it that way if you care about sound at all! Without a sub in the XJ the front doors end up being Bassier than the rear and to me it sounds "not quite right". If I drove it on a regular basis I would be adding a small sub or putting the 6.5"s in!
I thought about swapping the 5 1/4s and 6.5's but I don't drive and and figure fooey on it....
I alos got a bunch of 8" sub tubes for less than $15 a piece a while back I could use, but, eh, fooey on it...
