Bobcats and Pistols

This might be a good group to axe a few ot questions...

First, any suggestions on a .45 semi-auto pistol? I was originally looking at a
stainless gold cup trophy but stumbled across a FN 45 that looks pretty good.

Also, I have been running a bobcat and before it gets to full operating temp it
has problems where it shuts off the hydraulics. When it shuts off the
hydraulics the battery light comes on. Usually if I drop the throttle to idle
it will reset and enable the controls again. Other than the fact it is annoying
it also is a problem when I am in the middle of moving a load and it comes to a
dead stop. Any suggestions?

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

You can honestly pass up a Gold Cup Trophy for a junky ass FN 45..... Please do yourself a favor and get the Colt. One of the nicest standard production 1911's and total collectors item. Esp inside of the tree hugging commiefornia curtain. The FN is not bad, but its not a classic 1911 either. PERSONALLY i'd get the Gold Cup, tuck it away for your occasional weekend shooting and pick up a XD .45acp for your grunt work.

I did that with my Delta Elite (which i love to death, nothing like a 10mm rd)

As for the heavy machinery, i don't know junk about em.... Guns I do know.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

The _classic_ is the AMT Hardballer (don't even think it is made
anymore). Arnold had one with a laser sight in Terminator (1).

Kimber probably does a version that is probably quite nice if you're
willing to pay the extra price.

If not, then Springfield Armory probably does a decent version.

Of course, there is always... Colt.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of stainless. I know they come a long
way since the early days of galling and funky lubes to make stainless
play nice with itself...

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

I pretty much figured that is the response I would get. I just wish it didn't
cost so much f@#$ing money. I found a dealer up here in Montana that would sell
it to me for $965 + no sales tax. Apparently my DL expired last month and I
can't get it unless I have VALID id... Can't get a MT id since I don't have an
"address" and won't get a CA id in time... f@#$!!

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Get the Gold Cup. I'm not terribly familiar with the FN but I know 1911s you
can't really go wrong with Colt. Especially a Gold Cup.

Tractors I know nothing about sorry.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

shoot it with whatever .45 you get... I have an AMT Match Hardballer .45 love it, very accurate. Have a HK USP .40 that blows goats compared to it.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

I hear you on the H&K USP40, I had one of those a few years ago. Nice but over-hyped Had to sell it along with my H&K PSP, Glock 21, and Ruger P90, Due to medical bills. When I decided to buy guns again I went with Springfield and Colt 1911A1s and a Browning P35 High Power.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Got rid of a P90 as well, calling it crappy was a compliment. thing rattled like a bag of rocks. Shot as well as throwing the rocks....left handed.... Traded a bunch of my ~crap for a genuine HK-91. Always wanted one and finally got it.. .308 is a mans round compared to a .223 gopher hurter.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

check Hydro levels, check the coolers on the back deck and make sure that there is good airflow. I have to wash mine out once a month. Check the breather for the hydro fluid tank. Is it the hydro that cuts out or the engine? and what kind of a code does it flash when the motor dies?

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Should be an 01-02 876 Advantage series. Has about 1700 hours on it. Good
maintenance record, but it get abused on the ranch.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

actually, no... It sounds like an electrical gremlin. The hydro's shut off when you undo one of the safety's. Does it still roll and drive or do the pedals stop working or both?
Does it have the electronic parking brake or is it a kick lever pedal in the middle?

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Nope. Won't roll, drive, or lift. Kick style parking brake. It is actually an
873, if that matters. The code it flashes is the battery light. Hasn't killed
the engine on me yet... but it does happen occasionally. The battery was
replaced about a year ago when this trouble started. The old battery was toast
and seemed to cause the problems, but a new battery hasn't fixed it. Any fuse
panels I should check? What about common electrical issues. It seems the safety
system is disabling the hydro. could be rats... had to resolder wires on a baler
that rats chewed up.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Well I never said Ruger was refined, LOL. Yeah the P90 was a rattle trap but it was reliable. I wish that I still had my H&K 91 but I sold it along with my FNFAL at the same time as my Pistols, Now Im happy to have a M1 in near new condition. Never was a real fan of the 5.56 Hamster Master ARs even though I have a Armalite, I always preferred AKs to them.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Yeah, the .223 lacks in some departments, but earthquake crowd control
isn't one of them, my mini-14 will do fine for that. Jihad? I'd
rather have the 7.62x39.

I have the .223 in a medium heavy barrel bolt gun with a 6.5-20x
Leupold scope that makes a fine precision work out to 300 yards, but
my .308 bolt gun for farther (or harder) targets.

On the subject of 45's - of the two get the Gold Cup. I had one, wish
I still did. I didn't leave it factory, so it wouldn't be much for
most people to look at. I added a Clark compensator, beveled the mag
well, and stuff. Shot pretty well for IPSC until I got the custom gun.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

I have an old 1911 A1 which might need a little work with the extractor.
Sweet Piece though. I need to find someone who does work on 1911's if I
need it.

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Ah, AK. that was one I got rid of.. Was kinda nice, full synthetics and a real russian long barrel I had installed. But it was more of a slug thrower. not as accurate as I wanted. Hence the upgrade to the 91. M1 are nice.. Back to the .308 im more partial to the M14... Seen those lately done in plastic. You can make those REAL nice. Might be the next one.. .Hmmmmm. No wait got to get this stroker for the Jeep done first..

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

762x39 is good. but for getting the attention of the crowd coming your
way...nothing matches the bang and hit of a 30-06 or a .308 except my new
fav the ratchet of 00 loading into the chamber of a .62 cal smooth bore

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

Forgot to mention... magazines hold 10-20-30 rounds

a .62 cal sends out 9-15 9mm slug with each pull, mine allows 8 pulls (7
with 15 slugs each) with reloading between pulls....and you can miss by
a couple of inches and still hit your target.

or just send a .62 cal slug into something...

Re: Bobcats and Pistols

The error code is 03-10 on an 873 Bobcat, 01-02 is the year.
