prius vs ....

ok, now compare $ per mile instead of gallons per mile...
Is it fair that I'm making my own fuel? And its better for the environment with regards to emissions? And that my fuel supply relies on less than 10% petroleum based fuel which I could cut down to 0-zero by changing from methanol to ethanol.
And that I'm running said BioD in my dodge, 2 bobcat tractors, and the freightliner!
Yeah I like BioD at this point

Re: prius vs ....

From where are you getting your used oil? Is it still free to you? Any pesky legal issues yet?

Re: prius vs ....

I do not haul it. Yes I pay for it. the collector will do a specific route to chinese/sushi only restaurants and collect me just the primo oil. Then deliver it to my house. No legal issues do date.

Re: prius vs ....

What is not fair is that you have to pay tax for making your own fuel. The
way I see it, they should give you a tax break for being helpful.

I hear there is a factory in IL that is making BioD from chicken and pig
fat wastes.

I love these higher gas prices. They are forcing the industry and users to
get more creative and less wasteful. I hear Brazil is almost fuel
independent since they make their ethanol from their own sugar canes. I
just wish we could make ethanol from something other than soy and corn so I
could once again order corn with my meals at the local Hawaiian BBQ joint.

Sad part is that all these advances in alternate fuel manufacturing could
have been done a long time ago if it wasn't for the greedy oil people.

Now if they could start doing something about our old and rapidly decaying
electrical power plants before all goes to hell....

Re: prius vs ....

Actually, no state fuel tax on the bobcats because they are not for driving on the road.

You only have to pay the fuel tax if you are using it on State Roads. It is not a fuel tax, it is a highway tax on fuel. If you are not going to use it on the highway you dont have to pay the tax.
If you are using it in a generator to make electricity for your house at night, you dont have to pay the fuel tax. If you use it in your tractor, you donna have to pay the fuel tax.

I am trying to borrow a rototiller to rototill my backyard. My tomatoes are coming in great, they are awesome. Corn ...some was good and some not so mature. I want to do watermelon, cantaloupe, artichokes, avacado trees (have one in Santa Ana) ..... because it is so much better then the crap in the store.

If I start diving again, maybe I can get some bugs (lobster) and pig out....

Re: prius vs ....

Did I mention that there will be no waste in my BioD setup.
the spent water can water palms on the property.
As I learn this process, there are a few things that I am learning.  1 is getting good with the base/base process.
the other is to learn the acid/base process in order to convert the FFA's to bioD.
this will give me less FFA's in the byproduct. Methanol is distilled and reused. From the byproduct, remaining FFA's will be mixed with wood shavings am packed into cardboard milk cartons for the campfires. Glycerin can be composted or further refined into soap. And the remaining potasium phospate will get added to the fertilizer tanks or soil piles. Nothing to waste.
