Jeep Newb

Hello guys Im new to this group, I just bought my 1st jeep, it a 99
cherokee 2 door sport with a 4.0 and auto. Its all stock and showing
only 87000 miles on it and has seen little or no off roading, I paid
$3300 for it, I think I got a pretty good deal. My 1st question
is..has anyone used the JET module offered for these? if so which one?
stage 1 or stage 2, how well did it work? ect. ect. I plan on running
31/10.50 15 and am going to lift it 3 to 4 inches, which is the best
lift? Ive been looking at the OME/terra flex kits has anybody used
these? What header is best? any mods you guys can tell me will
help...thanks.

Re: Jeep Newb

Welcome to the world of XJs

My general rule is that I do not upgrade unless I already need to do a
replacement of the component

1- Jet Module- haven't found the need to replace computer components, yet.

2- Lift. I installed a 3" Skyjacker Softride System when my rear springs
were saggy. That was ~ 100K ago, and my rears are saggy again.
--- My recomendations are not to use add-a-leaf or blocks on an XJ, as the
leafs are mighty soft and prone to axle wrap already
---At 4", if you are going to be pushing the off road abilities you may find
that you will need to install a Slip Yoke Eliminator, and replace the rear
driveshaft. A caveat to Jeep engineering is that the front driveshaft is a
good replacement for the rear when you are at the ~4 inch lift with an
installed SYE

3- Haven't replaced exhaust manifold yet, but it is on the list as it is the
one exhasut component that is still intact, and I need to pull it anyways as
I have a bad freeze plug

Re: Jeep Newb

welcome to the xj nuthouse!!  Where in the world are ya to get a deal like that on a 2dr Cherokee?
my xj was too old for 'computer modules', so i'm of no help there.
A 3" lift to fit those 31s would be about the best of both worlds, of your rear springs are sagging, get the new leaves, otherwose get an add a leaf, blocks just don't treat stock springs well.  I liked Rusty's lift, nice and soft.  most out there are good quality.  otherwise they wouldn't still be making them.
i've heard that the Borla header is worth every penny, but they sure do take alot of pennies!!!
good luck with the 'new' jeep, and remember, when you're under it with broken bolts, rust, and mud falling into your eyes, This Is FUN!!

Re: Jeep Newb

I live in mid michigan, Ive already started doing mods to it (cant
help it) I first built a cold air set up and today I bored out the
throttle body so its the same dia. straight through, I also built a
1 inch spacer to put under it, it runs great. Now Im going to order
a header for it. I will be putting some pictures of the stuff I am
doing soon. see ya!

Re: Jeep Newb

I tried the JET module, after "upgrading" to a full Borla exhaust &
FIPK.

Wasted alot of time & money .....

I recommend the Borla muffler & an Add-A-Leaf with 2 inch extended
shackles. Coupled with the small sky-jacker set for the front and
using the stock wheels.

Consider getting a cheap roof-rack for your spare. The rear bumper
thing is a pain in the ass, and, the larger tires won't fit in the
stock location.
