Hi!
I just got a 1993 Cherokee Country XJ, 4wd, bone stock with the 4.0L inline 6 engine! 147,000 miles on it and still running strong!
I'm going to be working on the driver's side U-Joint, replacing it, and whilst I'm in there also doing the ball joint and the wheel bearing because it's damaged as a result of the worn U-joint.
Apparently the bearings on the front wheels are not serviceable, and complete hub assemblies are needed? This I'm gleaning from the www.myjeepxj.com website's "how-to" section. Are these the same as what Autozone lists as a part, or different?
Thanks for the web board, folks! I'm eager to read and learn and share, especially if anybody has bought a diesel engine that was stock in these XJs in other countries, and imported it and installed it in place of a gas engine!

Welcome! Sounds like you may be wanting to place a diesel engine in your xj? I would like to hear more about this myself. I wonderr if you could use the ones out of a later model jeep that came with it?

If an affordable diesel engine would fit I would indeed swap one in. However I don't know if one exists. This vehicle has an automatic transmission. In any case, a new tranny would be needed. If engine and tranny assemblies from Europe are available, I might consider it. This particular vehicle will just be repaired and probably put up for sale to fund the purchase of other diesel parts for my volkswagens.

Good luck with the Volkwagens!
