check engine light on showing a misfire

Hello everyone, I'm having a real problem getting my xj to pass inspection. I have the light turned off by my mechanic, then drive it to drop codes from computer. (NO HELP) I read on a forum somewhere that the trans. somehow causes a misfire code. I've tried changing the plug, the coil pack and just recently (SEAFOMED) the gas & the throttle body to try cleaning the injectors but the light comes back on at any given moment. Also when the light is on, if I coast in gear, when the RPM's reach around 1100 the light starts flashing and the car will not speed past 45 mph. but if I put in neutral & turn the key off & then start it back it is fine. Please help if you have had this kinda issue.

I would suggest trying to swap the bad cylinder's fuel injector with a good cylinder and see what happens.

Re: check engine light on showing a misfire

thanks for the advice BUT by the Grace of GOD it passed this morning. I don't  know if letting it sit for 36 hrs did the trick or the SEAFOAM I put in the tank or the Throttle body to clean the injectors did it but I'll be running a can of it every month from now on. Thanks again. I was in the process of buying a 2015 Cherokee and I really did not want to give up my XJ.
