Cherokee not starting

My jeep is not starting.  Can someone tell how ot test to see if gas is going to Carb?  How can I test to see if spark is going to spark plugs?

New coil , starter works.  Thankyou.

Re: Cherokee not starting

Depending on what engine and what model year you can check for fuel pressure on the fuel rail or fuel line pressure test port. It have been some time since a Cherokee had a carb. But if it does have a carb you can remove the air filter and look into the carb while opening the throttle briskly, you will see fuel squirt into the venturi if you are getting fuel.
For Cherokee's before 1999 model year you can carefully pull the easiest to reach spark plug wire off the spark plug. Then while holding the metal terminal on the end of the spark plug wire within a sixteenth of an inch from a metal part of the engine. Have an assistant crank the engine while holding the plug wire close to the metal surface and watch for an obvious spark. If good it will be nice a big and blue in color. If it is weak or yellowish it indicates weak spark. In 1999 and later 4.0L they use a distributor-less ignition system. Much more difficult to test without without testing equipment and or proper procedures.
More information about what engine and model year your cherokee is will allow people to make more educated guesses about helping you with your no start condition.

Re: Cherokee not starting

Had a problem several years ago with my 96/4.0 that drove my self and the mechanics at the shop I use crazy. After checking everything from a - y they checked z which was the neutral safety switch. Bad news,,, it's part of the tranny and rather expensive unless you want to pull it your self and give it a good cleaning. I think there is a web page on the internet that gives instructions.
