fixing a plastic small engine gas tank

What is the best way to fix a small engine gas tank???

Small 6hp engine has a 1 inch crack in the gas tank that leaks fuel.
Will Epoxy work? Should I put it in the inside or outside?
Will baking soda/super glue mix work?
Any other ideas?

Thanks...

If it's the right plastic, take it to a plastic welding company.

They fixed the $500 fuel tank on my 2001 TTR250 Yamaha. They'll let you know if it's reparable.

Re: fixing a plastic small engine gas tank

drain the tank. rinse it out with water. let it sit in the sun for a few days with the cap off. by this time most of all the residual gas should be gone. But to be safe, keep a distance and wave a flame past it. Any little bit a fuel vapor remaining will maybe ignite but be so minor. low heat and solder is the only way I think to properly fix it. To much heat and the crack will continue. I've done this on a motorcycle fuel tank.

Re: fixing a plastic small engine gas tank

Ohh, they have plastic solder at Harbor Freight ....
I will try a couple of the heat solutions. As it is a small tank with very little pressure on it.
Thanks

I haven't figured out how to use the HF plastic welding kit. I'm not that bright tho. :) since the ttr tank was $500, I let the pros do it.

That I can do. I compare this sorta to open flame welding aluminum.

I'm guessing that JB Weld wouldn't work.
