check your brake pedal switch.  it may be telling the TCU that the brakes are on.

Thanks for the suggestion. When you say rivets, are these on the actuator? Is this the switch/arms that the rods attach too? One rod for the door opener and one for the lock?

My rear passenger door lock/actuator stopped working. Yes, of course it was in the closed position. My question is how do I open the door with it in the locked position. It has electric actuators and they seem to be rusted/stuck in the locked position. I pulled the interior door skin and tried to move it by hand. No go. How do I get it open with out destroying the door? I have WD40'ed the actuator but to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks. Are they the same (1310) for all three U joints on each shaft?

I have an '97 XJ with an Atlas II using a stock front drive shaft (double cardon type) on the front (D30)and a stock (extended) front drive shaft on the rear (D35). I am getting a chirping from the shafts and was looking to replace the U Joints. Does anyone have the sizes of the U Joints?

yeah, it's probably gummed up.  new ones are a couple bucks.
you could remove it and clean it inside with some carb cleaner, might fix it.

i would recommend NOT running 1350 ujoints with a 231 case.

you're forcing the t-case to be the weak link or FUSE and you dont want that.

1310 ujoints are used in competition all the time without failure.  it's all you really need.

And you are sure it is starting in 1st gear???
Are you burning some rubber? <g>

Reason I ask is..........I read that the AW4s in the Renix XJs like starting
in 2nd gear unless you really give it some gas.
Of course I should not believe everything I read but I did stomp on my gas
pedal from a stop and my mild mannered XJ became some monsterly fast beast
causing eyes to widen in amazement. Just like I found some super low gear
which brought my XJ to life. lol

YMMV and I am not totally sure on this. <:-)

Did you test or unplug the A/T part of the TPS and test shifting?
I can try to find my spare modules and I am pretty sure I have another TCM
somewhere. That is if you don't have one to try already.

meh, alot of their testing was a little shakey on fuel consumption.  it worked for me in the stroker.

It turned out to be the alternator failing. I pulled into the local Auto Zone and had them check the battery and Alternator. The first worker said all was ok but I pulled out the FSM from the rack and what it said did not jive with her volt meter. I had the asst. manager check it to confirm my option. It was the alternator. We swapped it out and the gauge cluster has been fine since.

Brake shoes install the wrong direction on one side.

might also want to check what weight oil he's running up there during this season..

DBs are great for bringing a stock ride back to a short arm lifted XJ.  only down side being ground clearance under the rails, they ramp rocks right into your crossmember.  but once you learn how to drive your XJ again in the rocks, they're awesome.  they will also increase your droop so you'll need some longer shocks.

#18 Re: General Jeep XJ Cherokee Forum » 88XJ smog » 02-21-2012 16:19:28

larger tires change your gear ratio (just like changing the axle ring & pinion) thus making the engine turn lower rpms to run the same mph.  this will negatively affect your passing smog.

change your O2 sensor.  should really do this every couple years anyway.

I am out of town on a long road trip and I am having an issue with the gauge for the Alternator. Recently I had the check gauges light come on. It sometimes goes off while driving it and when I start up the truck the light is off. A few miles down the road it comes on and the needle goes to the left. I have only driven it a short distance so I do not know if the battery is effected. Any ideas?

#23 Re: Off Topic Discussion » Electrical Question » 02-10-2012 15:27:58

bj

so then your answer should be YES?  jeez you confuse me sometimes..  :)

i thought you should never run a 220v motor in 110v mode.

#24 Re: Off Topic Discussion » Electrical Question » 02-10-2012 11:52:39

bj

if you double the voltage input to that motor, does it become more efficient?

oh, ok.  well you might just keep on trading it.  they look great in those fast & the furious cars..........

get an EGT guage or something useful.  :)
