Time to work on the XJ

Well, I am getting closer to actually starting to work on my XJ.  I previously bought an air compressor, and now I have just purchased a Craftsman 10 drawer tool chest.  It's nothing fancy, just their basic ball bearing chest set.  But after 9 years without a garage and being forced to carry my tools in the back of my XJ or in the back of my Ram, I finally have a place to put them in a somewhat organized manner so I am pretty excited.  I am quickly running out of excuses to start working on the XJ.  When I was getting all my tools organized, I was actually thinking it would be nice to wrench on the XJ.  I haven't had that feeling in several years.

Re: Time to work on the XJ

That's sweet. I know what you mean. It's great having a garage even if it can never have a lift (ceiling's too short). I don't have a chest, just a half dozen bags. And while things are roughly organized between those bags, it would be really nice to have a better system. At least, though, I can easily throw whatever bags I need (say the wrench and screwdriver bags or the big tools and socket bags) in the back of the XJ. So it does have an up side... Still seems like I lose one socket every time I work on something... That part sucks...

I hope you're better than I about it.

By Spring you and I are going to have our XJs fixed up ;) It'll help me if I know you're working on yours :O

Re: Time to work on the XJ

ORGANIZE IT NOW!!!! (Make it so Monk would like it!)
Plan for the future too.....large tools, lawn equipment, storage, etc
Shelving
Painting
Pegboards (for that BFH and other BF tools)
Rafter storage
Overhead bike storage
Workbench with vise

Is it insulated, walls painted white with plenty of lighting?
Got enough electrical outlets along with 220 volts?

Nothing worse than looking for a tool that you can not find. I tried
finding one of my 110v receptacle testers today, but I could not find it. I
usually find it when I don't need it and I usually don't need it for many
years! lol
I need to get better organized and not have my tools in 3 separate
locations. :-)
Toolboxes or areas for: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and automotive
tools.

That will keep you busy enough not to have to work on your XJ! lol

Re: Time to work on the XJ

You will find you never have enough tool chests!
I have two old, I swear I was young when I bought them?, Craftsman boxes.
No such thing as ball bearing slides back then...
I still need more storage, I keep looking at the sets, probably like Derek bought to put my
cordless stuff in and all my press tools etc.
I bought 120lbs worth of assorted old dealership tools a few months ago and need someplace to put them!
They are currently shoved in the middle of the garage falling out of the cardboard box they arrived in. :(
